Territorium

In Territorium, Henk Wildschut shows how the area around his childhood home in Harderwijk has changed.

Where farmers once worked and he played as a child, people now argue about how to use the land and protect nature. Farmers, nature lovers, tourists and scientists all want something different. Wildschut takes photos of empty barns, cut-down trees and measuring tools used to check the air and soil. In anonymous interviews, people talk about how they deal with these changes. For example, new rules about nitrogen mean some farmers have to stop. Nitrogen is a substance found in manure and car exhaust, and it can harm fragile plants. Wildschut does not choose sides but invites us to look and listen more closely. His work shows how nature, farming and technology are more and more connected, and how difficult it can be when many different interests come together. His book Territorium is available in our shop.
