Plant Supervision

In Plant Supervision, Lorenzo Zerbini shows videos from home security cameras that were hacked.

These cameras are normally used to watch people or protect houses. But here, the cameras are watching plants—inside homes or gardens. This makes us look at plants in a new way. Instead of thinking of them as quiet or passive, we see them through the eyes of machines made for control. This makes us ask: why are these plants being watched? Zerbini talks about “plant blindness”, a word that means people often forget that plants are living beings. By turning the idea of surveillance upside down, the artist shows how technology changes the way we see nature.
