In 1993 and 1994 Hope Wurmfeld (1934) followed and photographed a group of female artists who gathered to undertake action to improve the political climate for women at the time of the presidential election. This group called themselves Women's Action Coalition (W.A.C.). The group is currently dead and gone, but their ideas are not, also due to Wurmfeld's photographs. The subjects in the series In the Streets and thus of women's protests are very varied. They range from the abortion conflict to the acknowledgement of gay and lesbian rights; from equal rights at work to protests against using rape as an instrument of war. Wurmfeld's report is characterized by a special camera movement. Through the use of a wide-angle lens and the movement of the camera, a lively account of protest marches is created.
