What is globalisation? Sort of a 'theory of everything', encompassing all sorts of developments in the areas of culture, economy and politics. Everything, from a power failure here to an armed conflict there, has to do with globalisation, but in what manner? When a term includes so much, what can it still explain? The Studium Generale organisation of the University of Groningen invited a number of guests to shed their light on various aspects of globalisation, intending to do something about the confusion surrounding this term, hoping to paint a clearer picture of the changes that the world is undergoing due to globalisation. On the question whether globalisation is a new phenomenon, on its relation to other concepts such as 'internationalism', 'liberalism', 'information' and 'americanisation'. About the global village, how it looks and how the stranger moves around in it. The programme also offers a film with a critical introduction, and a debate on WTO and GATS.
